Growing up Pip was brought up by hand in the home of his older sister and her husband, Joe. While visiting his parent’s grave, he encounters a convict who threatens Pip into steeling food and a file for him; this haunts Pip for many years. One day Ms. Havisham, a wealthy spinster sends for Pip to come on play at her house, when he arrives he is greeted by the beautiful, but cold Estella a beautiful but heartless girl, the girl whom Pip will fall for. As the story progresses Pip finds himself on a whirlwind trip from poor to proper, this transformation is funded by an anonymous benefactor, who turns out to be the convict he helped as a child who was touched by Pip’s kindness. The final scene is of Pip and Estella meeting at the now abandoned house where they first met, and implies they may still have a future together.
